Here are THREE tips:

Firstly go with a Direct Plan Mutual fund platform, else you LOSE upto 40% of your total money (not just gains).
Providers like CAMS or Karvy do not offer all Mutual Funds. The choice is limited to a handful of AMCs. Whereas Jama.co.in is a direct mf platform offering funds serviced by both CAMS and Karvy.
MFU provides a wider choice, but does not provide fund selection and advisory. It is only a transaction provider. If you need smarts and intelligence then go with a smarter platform. When it comes to investing you need someone who an advise and help you reach your goals. Even for a savvy investor, advanced features are not available in a transaction-only portal.
